Canon Point: Short answer: Death. Long answer: Getting stabbed by a mercenary or soldier on the front yard of his wife’s estate, as said estate burns.

Character Appearance: Link, specifically the man in that image: Elias is a bespectacled man with dark brown/black hair and brown eyes. He prefers to dress in button-downs, coats and other stereotypically academic things.

Powers and Abilities:

• Wizard spellcasting: As a DnD Wizard, he can cast a laundry list of spells that do a variety of things. I've grouped them roughly below to make the explanation concise, with a full spell-list under “Spellbook” on his infopage if needed.
  
  These will be fully nerfed and replaced with the starting potion magic, and I’m not certain how to go about regaining them yet- I might regain specific spells, or ignore spells and request for more general powers (e.g. “controlling wind within xyz parameters” and not “Spell X which creates a gust of wind within a 10ft x 30 ft area for 1 minute”), or ask for entirely different powers? I’ll discuss with the mod team when the time comes.
  
  Rough Categories:
  • Spells that change the physical qualities of an object or creature (eg. enhancing the strength or intelligence of another creature for 10 minutes, levitating an object up to 20ft/6m upwards)
  • Spells that create an object or natural physical effect (eg. creating a strong wind 10ft/3m wide, 60ft long)
  • Teleportation of up to 30ft to a location he can see, or switching places with an ally within 30ft (he has two ways to do this, via the spell Misty Step or via a subclass feature)
  • Magic detection stuff (eg. detecting magic up to 30ft around him, of identifying how a magic item works)
  • Combat magic (eg. small blast of fire, a one-turn magical shield. His strongest combat spell is Lightning Bolt, basically a 100ft/30m long laser blast, that he can only cast up to 3x a day. For the game-savvy, he does not have Fireball, sorry.)
• Research and Arcane Study: Elias is a scholar with a PhD equivalent on teleportation circles. He's good at reading, and good at math. Magic math specifically, but probably also regular math.
• First Aid: Elias has the "Healer" feat which enables him to heal partymates with a Healer's Kit. Outside of DnD mechanics, this basically means he's up to date on his first-aid training because trainee wizards are always shooting each other with spells or accidentally summoning demons. Because this is a skill rather than supernatural ability, as well as needing medical supplies to do much good, this will not be nerfed.

What Did Your Character Wish For? That his wife’s estate was never attacked. It’s more of panic-thoughts (eg. “I wish this wasn’t happening”) rather than an intentional wish, but it still was a coherent desire for something and hence counted.

What Potion Did They Receive? Scarlet

Did They Drink It? Not yet, but I’m planning to have him drink it within the first month after hearing that it’s not harmful from other people. He’ll gain the ability to produce a small flame, which he can use to start fireplaces, heat up food or drink over some time, light lanterns, etc. I’m also thinking that it could be used offensively like the cantrip Fire Bolt (which is meant to be an extremely weak and basic-level fire spell). Let me know if that’s going to be an issue.

Character Questions:

1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon? Or who is someone they miss the most?
Mr Overseer sir, Elias totally gets missing a lover. He’s also missing a lover- who is also the answer to this question, his wife!

Elias met his wife, Lady Andromeda Nightforge, while they were both undergraduates at wizard school for wizards (and Artificers, his wife is actually more of a scientist-type than a wizard). They are research buddies, they built a lot of their bond by being each other’s friend-that-you-complain-about-your-project-to-and-get-ideas-from. Elias misses her not only in general, but specifically because his canon-point involves him getting stabbed pretty badly in her house, and he’s subconsciously very worried about how she’s doing back home. Consciously, he’s trying not to think about it since there’s nothing he can do to get back at the moment.

2. What are they most afraid of?
This made me sad to realise but his worst fear would have been something disastrous happening as a result of his wife saying “fuck you, also I’m building a robot creature that counters you specifically to cope with being mad” to every politician and powerful figure she doesn’t like. That worst fear has come to pass at the time of his canonpoint- it’s why he made his wish- and he’s definitely repressing this for now because he doesn’t want to unpack that.

3. What is their weakness? Emotionally, mentally and physically?

• Physically weak:Relative to other adventurers and TTRPG protagonists, at least. DnD wizards are famously fragile as they have the lowest dice size for their health. Elias is about as stab-vulnerable as the average person, which is very. He also has the strength stat of barely-above-average, so he’ll struggle with things like climbing up a wall or busting down doors.
• Cowardly?: An argument can be made that he tends to hide behind his stronger partymates in a fight, and run when there’s nothing to hide behind, but y’know. He’s a wizard, it’s more of self-preservation.
• Non-confrontational, Passive: While there are things he puts his foot down on- he has a decent moral compass and also doesn’t tolerate direct disrespect- he follows what his peers do or suggest he do a lot of the time. He’ll try to say “this is a bad idea” but then if his party does it anyway he’ll follow them to make sure no one dies, albeit reluctantly. Notably, his wife loves fucking with people and picking fights and Elias doesn’t stop her, even though it’s made him very nervous in the past.
  
  That being said, he has moments of courage and initiative, especially in tough times: He was meant to evacuate from his wife’s estate early, but stayed to defend the servants and their families fleeing the estate- a decision that proved fatal.

4. What would make them happiest?
Growing up with working-class parents, Elias has fairly down-to-earth dreams: being able to live peacefully, do work that intellectually challenges him, and to see his loved ones happy.

Back home he’s made compromises on intellectual fulfillment for stability, moving to a more stable — if boring — teaching role as going all-in on research would’ve required months or years away from his wife and friends. Being able to investigate magical phenomena or do research again would be really exciting for him, but Elias is cautious about not losing himself in the work- he does not want to follow his past coworkers’ example of, like, Astral Projecting into another plane for fieldwork and then not coming back for like 5 years. Dude what about your classes. Dude.

5. What’s their type for a lover?
Someone intelligent and a sharp conversationalist. But more of a curious type of intelligence, someone who understands how much they still don’t know about the world rather than someone who uses their existing knowledge to be holier-than-thou over people. The latter would be a strong turn-off.

Elias is bisexual, but his first male crush was an orientation leader who then revealed he’d been flirting with Elias as a form of freshman hazing…… the incident upset him enough that he was like “No, I was never attracted to that guy, that asshole! I’m straight!” That being said, him already having a spouse and being unsure of if he can remarry if he dies is the bigger obstacle to a potential male paramour. I’m not planning to get him into any romantic relationships, but anything can happen tbh.
