[ He didn't have time to properly thank Elias for the chocolate and they've been put on different shifts. Instead, he decides to leave it in his mailbox for him to take latter. Thankfully, with the cold weather, the chocolate will not melt.
Elias will receive a modest rectangular box with an assortment of pralines. Nothing too fanciful. An appropriate, obligation sort of gift, even if it's usually the women who give out chocolate on this day in Japan. Once he touches the box, the chocolates will turn blue. ]
To Elias-san,
Thank you for the chocolate. Please accept this in return. Sorry that I could not give this to you in person.
Too much chocolate is bad for your throat, so remember to drink water after eating.
( Elias had probably seen her a few times already, the short elven woman with a prominent scar over her cheek and a resting bitch face. She had returned her books well within the two week time limit every time, grabbed more, and left without a word. The ideal library patron, surely.
Today, however, she somehow seemed more annoyed than usual while she rifled through the books, half growling when she pulled one out, looked it over, and then shoved it back onto the shelf. )
[The librarians, being often reserved people themselves, keep an unspoken agreement with the patrons to leave them alone unless asked for. It makes communicating his appreciation for them hard- if nobody visited or borrowed books he'd just be doing nothing all day, slowly going insane- but respecting their personal space is also appreciation, so Elias keeps it to a simple greeting when someone comes in. He thinks it works. But he also enjoys it when he occasionally gets to talk to people.
He's in the shelves re-shelving some returned books when he spots Sun Spear coming at him; he has a principle of Letting The Girlbosses Do What They Want, so Elias hugs his remaining books to his chest and steps out of her way.
For a few minutes he leaves her alone and continues his own business timidly around her. But the woman's frustration is evident, and evidently growing. Eventually, he decides to speak up.]
( Sun Spear was shit about asking for help anyway, and she still hadn't planned on doing so until Elias spoke. She stood up, gave him a once over, and sighed, offering him a glance at a sheet of paper with a fairly long list of books written down. 98% of which were various Arthur Conan Doyle works sans most of Sherlock Holmes, and a few random Shakespeare and Poe plays and poems tossed in. )
Someone gave me recommendations, and half the shit in here isn't even organized. I'm looking for stuff from Earth.
…yeah, the fiction section isn't well sorted. We had some disagreements over that a while back and it hasn't- we haven't pulled it together, sadly.
[Elias looks up and down the small 'fiction' shelf they're standing in front of. He spots an "Arthur Conan Doyle", plucks it out, and blanks at the title for a few seconds before realising it's not on the list (it's a Sherlock Holmes title. Because of course it is.) He puts it back.]
What are these books by Arthur Conan Doyle about? If it's a historical novel it might be with the history books, or the science books if it's science fiction. That's where I'd suggest to look next.
What's to disagree about with fiction? ( The concept that the people within the novels may be real and currently in the world is not something she had considered just yet. Although Arthur had mentioned that some concept of Sherlock was real somewhere.
She paused, mentally rifling through the long-winded descriptions she had been given. )
Some are Professor Challanger stories? I think he said science fiction - whatever the fuck that counts as.
It was brought up that, how do we know it's fiction? Since these books are from all over, someone suggested that there would be at least one universe out there where every story has happened, and therefore there should be no "fiction" section. Which, I get, but it made things really confusing.
[It was a whole Deal. But by now both librarians on either side of this debate had left the library, either to work elsewhere or had disappeared entirely, and there's nothing left to do but to try and re-establish the Fiction section between Belle and himself.
At the name "Professor Challenger", Elias lets out an amused noise as if it just reminded him of something funny;]
Did you know, there's a "Professor Meowsworth" in town?
Anyway, I'll help you look through the Science section.
[Well sorry for assuming the couch his couch crasher is talking about is his!!.]
Oh
Someone kicked you out? Or disappeared?
I haven't decided what's for dinner. Are you feeling like anything in particular
[It was probably gonna be another stew / reheated leftovers night and he's trying not to say that. Sure Elias can feed himself but without a guest to host for he gets a little r/malelivingspaces about it.]
[ if you get what he's saying. flustering and/or making elias exasperated with him will save him from having to talk about his feelings right? right. ]
[He's too distracted by food planning and the sneaking sense that Toji is depressed to notice the double entendre. Note to self: check SLEEPR next time it comes around to see what's up...]
Edited (i just got a tag where aki teaches elias how to make a bento so I'm retconning the roast lamb. eli is making you a katsudon, stud) 2023-08-29 10:36 (UTC)
[ Elias will find a meticulously wrapped box with a silvery ribbon appear on his doorstep. Once he opens it, he will find a Kokuburra Tea-Cup that is big enough that it will hold a few hours worth of tea, for those library evenings. Inside the cup is tucked a little bag with some dried cuttlefish morsels for Jimothy, and with a note in Essek's script. "Thank you for your friendship" ]
I am so sorry I did not get back to you, the festivities at Castle Exandria have been quite intense. The inks though are lovely and I appreciate the fact that you understand that we wizards can never have enough ink. The selection is lovely, thank you!
[Delivered quite kindly by the mail mice to Elias's home are some Christmas cookies (some are a little misshapen but it's clear they were made with care). There is also a whole bag of birdseed.
Attached is a card inside is delicate handwriting:]
MERRY CHRISTMAS SIR! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! I got something yummy for you and Jimothy!
[Delivered to Elias's door by a giant owl is a box. Should he open it there it is filled with goodies to help survive the winter. There are two candles, one made of beeswax, bright and yellow, another is scented with cinnamon, orange, and pine. Next to the honey wand is a whole jar of honey that came from Aurora's bees, much like the beeswax honey. But it's not just honey and nuts, there is a sweet treat as well. Raspberry tarts are wrapped up safely to ensure they do not crumble.
There is also a whole bag of birdseed for Jimothy.
In the box is a letter with elegant handwriting:]
Warmest and Joyous Yule Greetings to you, Elias and Jimothy. May this help get you through winter to spring's awakening. I wish you well. Kindest of regards, Princess Aurora
[On Christmas morning, Jasmine leaves at Elias' cottage door a large and small package. The large one contains a cliff notes copy of the journal she's been working on documenting the varying types of magic she and Aladdin have encountered in the Seven Deserts. The small one is a miniature hooded cloak sized just for Jimothy thanks to Clothilda. On top of the two packages is a card inside a wax-sealed envelope with Elias and Jimothy's full names scribed in elegant cursive on the front, in both Roman and Persian (الیاس وردس و جیموتی) alphabet. (Next to Jimothy's name, there is a visible kiss print.) The card's message reads:]
Mr. Verdes,
As a teacher of magical theory, I thought you would be interested in the journal project I started, thanks to your lovely new stationary store. I don't know if this information will ever be needed here, but if anyone would know what to do in such a case, it would be you. Jimothy, please keep warm this winter, it can get very cold.
Thank you for all you've done for my council; you're the greatest scribe I could ever ask for. See you at the next meeting. Jasmine
((OOC: There is, sadly, not an easy, thorough directory for Agrabah lore, and I haven't had the chance to summarize it yet on my end, so for now we can handwave that Elias has a reference for every magic BS that has appeared in the canon. I doubt it will become relevant in-game any time soon anyway.))
